how to keep fighting

When it comes to pursuing your goals, are you fighting? I don’t mean a nasty aggressive act, I’m talking about a daily act of choices that lead to meeting your those goals.

Let’s look at the blockbuster Rocky for a bit of inspiration. I’ll never forget when Rocky came out in the 80’s. The story drew me in and I wanted to see him win not just the fight of fights and prove to himself and everyone else that he could do it, but also win his girl. I think we were all drawn in and wanted to see that all that training and drinking raw eggs {yuck} was really going to work.

When you set out to do something there will be skeptics, don’t listen to them. Did you know Sylvester Stallone’s famous script was turned down repeatedly? He was even offered money not to play the role of Rocky Balboa! Seriously? Half of Hollywood must have kicked themselves for not grabbing up that offer after seeing it gross over $200,000,000.00!

Here’s how to stay in the ring when you want to give up:

  • First realize that nothing happens over night. You have to lay your ground work and stay committed to it.
  • Decide how you’re going to lay your ground work. Will you get up 15 minutes early every day to focus on your goal? Work on it while the kids nap?
  • Enlist the support of someone you can trust. This could be a mentor, trusted friend or even hiring a coach.
  • Be kind to yourself. Pursuing goals is a lot o concerted effort. You will make mistakes and fall down and that’s ok, it’s all part of the process.
  • Schedule time to rest and play. This is imperative to prevent burn out and giving up.
  • Allow yourself to experiment and find your rhythm. It can take a bit of trial and error to find your sweet spot especially when you’re juggling a 9-5, kids, soccer and the endless list. No one’s life looks like a Pinterest board, don’t put that kind of pressure on yourself.

It all boils down to choices, so keep choosing to fight the good fight.  You’ve got this!
